Frimpong, Grimaldo Lead Leverkusen To Vital Wolfsburg Win

October 21, (THEWILL) – Bayer Leverkusen retained their unbeaten Bundesliga campaign with a 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg on Saturday.

The visitors controlled much of the first half and took the lead when Jeremie Frimpong’s shot, via a Victor Boniface assist, just crossed the line before the Wolfsburg keeper could stop it. However, the hosts fought back and equalised before the break, taking advantage of a failed clearance from a corner kick for Maxcene Lacroix to score.

The second half saw Leverkusen regain control of the match. Alex Grimaldo’s effort from a Frimpong cross took a deflection on its way into the net to restore Leverkusen’s lead. Despite late pressure, Wolfsburg were unable to find an equaliser for a second time.

The victory sends Leverkusen back to the top of the Bundesliga table, one point ahead of VfB Stuttgart. It was a crucial three points for Xavi Alonso’s side against an improving Wolfsburg side under manager Niko Kovac. Leverkusen withstood the challenge and demonstrated their credentials as title contenders this season.

Both teams contributed to an entertaining contest between two tough German clubs. Leverkusen will hope this result provides momentum as they seek to remain atop the league.
