January 24, (THEWILL) – Eintracht Frankfurt, the reigning Europa League champions, have reportedly initiated talks with Belgian side Genk over the transfer of Nigerian striker, Paul Onuachu.
Onuachu has been in impressive form over the last two seasons, first winning the Golden Boot in the Jupiler League with 33 goals, and following that up with 19 goals in 29 appearances last season despite injuries. This season, the 28-year-old has continued in that vein, scoring 14 goals in 18 league fixtures.
This has encouraged Frankfurt to offer €15 million for Onuachu’s services, but Genk is reportedly demanding €25 million for the transfer. With Onuachu’s contract set to expire at the end of next season, Genk may be willing to lower their asking price to avoid losing him for free.
Onuachu’s scoring record and performances have not gone unnoticed, and his potential move to Frankfurt would be a significant step up in competition for the Nigerian international.
The transfer window is set to close in the coming weeks, and it remains to be seen if the two clubs can reach a deal for the transfer of the in-form striker or if the potential move will be suspended until the completion of the season and a deal be struck in the summer transfer cycle.
