November 16, (THEWILL) – Randal Kolo Muani will take Christopher Nkunku’s position in France’s World Cup roster, the country’s Football Association has announced.

As THEWILL reported, Nkunku was on track to contribute to his country’s World Cup trophy defence campaign in Qatar, when he was injured during a training session.

Real Madrid player, Eduardo Camavinga, collided with the RB Leipzig player, and the latter fell to the ground clutching his knee. Didier Deschamps had to call in a replacement because the injury, which was later determined to be a knee strain, was going to prevent him from being fit for the World Cup.

After scoring 12 goals and dishing out four assists in Ligue 1 for Nantes last season, Muani joined Frankfurt in the summer and has had a solid start to life in the Bundesliga. The 23-year-old has scored five goals and provided nine assists in 14 league games. He has also scored twice in six UEFA Champions League contests.

Aiming to increase that total at the World Cup, he received his first two caps in September, playing off the bench against Austria and Denmark. Despite only being selected as a backup option, he may get some playing time because Karim Benzema is not yet totally fit after just playing 30 minutes of football in the previous month.
