March 27, (THEWILL)- Les Bleus, favourites for Euro 2024, recovered from an early setback to defeat Chile 3-2 in an international friendly in Marseille, on Tuesday. The win will provide a confidence boost after their surprise 2-0 loss to Germany just days earlier.

Although Chile took a shock 6th-minute lead through Marcelino Nunez, France hit back with goals from Youssouf Fofana, Randal Kolo Muani and veteran striker, Olivier Giroud. Dario Osorio pulled one back late on for the visitors.

The much-changed French lineup showed battling qualities to overturn the deficit, despite losing Jonathan Clauss and Eduardo Camavinga to first-half injuries. Captain Kylian Mbappe was one of only two starters retained from the Germany match.

Giroud’s 72nd-minute strike took him to 57 international goals, cementing his status as France’s all-time top scorer. Kolo Muani impressed with a goal and an assist for Les Bleus.

Chile, preparing for the Copa America in the USA this summer, gave a good account of themselves under new boss, Ricardo Gareca. However, France was hungrier for the win and this triumph steadies the French ship ahead of their Euro 2024 campaign.
