June 09, (THEWILL) – Founder of Roots Television, Dumebi Kachikwu, has emerged the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the party’s presidential primary held in Abeokuta.

Dumebi is the younger brother of former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu.

Kachikwu emerged the winner after defeating ten other aspirants, including former Central Bank of Nigeria’s Deputy Governor, Kingsley Moghalu and Chukwuka Monye.

He was declared the winner after scoring 977 votes; Moghalu polled 589 votes; Chukwuka Monye secured 339 votes.

Moghalu, who joined the ADC in October 2021, was Young Progressives Party (YPP) presidential candidate in 2019.

Before the commencement of voting, Moghalu had said he would defeat Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election.

“I am here to offer myself to you not because I am better than anybody here, but because I care about the future of our country. I offer myself because God has given me the main recognition to stand side-by-side with Atiku, Tinubu and to send them into retirement”, he had said.

Reacting to the poll, Monye tweeted: “ADC primary is done. I appreciate Prof. Moghalu and other credible aspirants for a spirited fight even though we didn’t make it.

“The fight to rescue this country from the brink of disaster is still on. Monye is committed to this. Will communicate who we will support.”
