September 08, (THEWILL) — Former Katsina South Senator, Bello Mandiya, has died at the age of 62, with the Katsina State Government confirming that the former federal lawmaker passed away in Abuja on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Ibrahim Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, confirmed the death and disclosed that the former lawmaker would be buried in Abuja on Tuesday.
The cause of his death was not immediately disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
Governor Dikko Radda described Mandiya’s death as a major loss to Katsina State and Nigeria.
In a condolence message, Radda said he received the news with “shock and deep sadness”, describing Mandiya as a committed public servant whose contributions to Katsina State and Nigeria would remain remembered.
The governor extended his condolences to Mandiya’s immediate family, former Governor Aminu Masari, the people of Katsina South, his political associates and friends, as well as his former colleagues in the Ninth Senate.
He also prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and for the family to be granted the strength to bear the loss.
Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan, in a condolence message, described him as a thoroughbred lawmaker who brought diligence, intellect and a strong sense of responsibility to his legislative duties.
Mandiya, a prominent figure in Katsina politics, served in the Ninth National Assembly from 2019 to 2023, after winning election to represent Katsina South Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During his time in the Senate, Mandiya served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Water Resources.
Before his election to the Senate, Mandiya served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari.
