SAN FRANCISCO, June 20, (THEWILL) – A former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gambo Jimeta, is still alive contrary to claims by a close family friend of the former police chief that he died early Wednesday in Abuja.

We have therefore updated our reporting and withdrawn our previous report with apologies.

The Gambo-Jemeta family in a statement signed by Mubarak Gambo, said he is alive and in doing well.

“Our attention has been drawn to online news reports on the death of the former Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Gambo Jimeta.

“We hereby emphatically state that Alhaji Gambo Jimeta is very much alive and is not dead.”

THEWILL can however report that the Chief of Staff to Governor Mohammed Jibrilla, Abdulrahman Abba, died in Makkah, Saudi Arabia on Monday while a former first lady of the state, Zainab Nyako, also died early Wednesday in Yola, Adamawa, which is also Mr. Jimeta’s home state.

Mrs Nyako was wife of former governor Murtala Nyako. She was buried Wednesday afternoon in Yola.
