Former Delta Rep Member Cairo Ojougboh Slumps, Dies During AFCON Semi-Finals

February 08, (THEWILL) – A former House of Representatives member who represented the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State, Cairo Ojougboh, is dead.

Ojougboh died on Wednesday night in Abuja while watching the AFCON 2023 semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa.

A family source, who confirmed the incident, said Ojougboh collapsed while watching the intense football match, shortly after a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria during the semi-final clash in Bouake, Ivory Coast.

The source added that his family is presently converging in Abuja.

Dr. Ojougboh was a member of the House of Representatives (2003-2007) and a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State. He was also a former Executive Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

He is survived by two wives and many children.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has Condoled with the Ojougboh family and the government and people of Delta State over this tragic loss.

In a condolence statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu said he received with a heavy heart the news of the passing of Ojougboh.

While praying for the peaceful repose of the departed, President Tinubu “comforts his family and urges them to find strength and hope in God Almighty, who presides over the affairs of men, as well as in the cherished memories and legacy of the late APC chieftain.”
