August 06, (THEWILL) – Adeyemi Owoseni, former Vice President of Confederation of African Tennis (CAT), Zone Two, has been appointed to two CAT committees for 2024-2025. The Ekiti State-born tennis administrator received confirmation of these appointments in letters from CAT President, Jean-Claude Talon, on July 26 and 29, 2024.

Owoseni will serve on the CAT Legal and Ethics Committee, chaired by Mr Matthias Naiyanya from Uganda. The committee includes members from Kenya, Morocco, Ghana, and Benin.

Additionally, Owoseni has been appointed to the CAT Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup Africa Commission, chaired by Mrs Wanjiru Mbugua Karani, from Kenya, with members from Ghana, Burundi, Botswana, and Morocco.

In response to his appointments, Owoseni expressed his delight and highlighted the importance of discipline in African tennis. He stated that one of the committee’s functions is to instil discipline in players and develop a legal framework to reposition the game in line with ITF status. Owoseni also noted that his selection for the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup Africa Commission reflects Nigeria’s role in organising tennis in Africa.

Owoseni brings significant experience to these roles, having previously chaired the MOC of the Africa Junior Tennis Championship in Abuja in 2010, which was widely acclaimed. He also managed NTF tournaments for decades, including three Davis Cup events hosted by Nigeria. Owoseni pledged to continue contributing his best efforts to develop tennis across the continent.

These appointments recognise Owoseni’s long-standing involvement in African tennis administration and his potential to contribute to the sport’s growth and governance in the region. His roles in these committees will involve shaping policies, enforcing standards, and promoting tennis development throughout Africa.
