August 30, (THEWILL) – Nottingham Forest have made the first move in their pursuit of Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi.
The English Premier League club have submitted an initial offer to Leicester City for the Nigeria international. Despite bringing Andrey Santos to the City Ground on loan from Chelsea, manager Steve Cooper is keen to strengthen his midfield options before the transfer window closes.
Ndidi has been identified as a prime target, with the 26-year-old entering the final 12 months of his contract at Leicester. An exit from the King Power Stadium this summer remains a possibility for Ndidi. Besides Forest, he has also been linked with Liverpool and Bayern Munich in recent weeks. Reports suggest Liverpool see him as an alternative to Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure.
Despite uncertainty over his future, Ndidi has remained a key player under Leicester boss, Enzo Maresca, this season. He has started four of their six games so far, repaying that faith with an impressive goal and assist against Tranmere in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, in a man-of-the-match display.
With Forest eager to build a squad capable of avoiding relegation, the signing of an experienced EPL midfielder like Ndidi would be a real statement of intent. Leicester are likely to demand a sizable fee for a player they value highly, but Forest have shown they have resources after a summer of heavy investment.
