Foden Fires Hat-Trick As Rampant Man City Sink Villa

April 04, (THEWILL) – Manchester City took a huge step towards a fourth successive English Premier League title with a dominant 4-1 victory over top-four challengers Aston Villa. Phil Foden was the star of the show, netting a superb hat-trick to take his tally to 20 goals for the campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s men flew out of the blocks and led early through Rodri’s thumping finish. Villa levelled against the run of play through Jhon Durán, but Foden’s excellent free-kick put City back in front before halftime. The hosts upped the tempo after the break.

Despite Villa’s best efforts to find an equaliser, with Douglas Luiz and Clément Lenglet going close, Foden killed the contest with two brilliant strikes. His second was a sweet curler into the corner after Rodri’s fine work, while his hat-trick goal was an unstoppable blast into the top corner.

With a commanding three-goal lead, City eased through the closing stages to make it nine straight home wins over Villa. Guardiola’s side reinvigorated their title charge, while Unai Emery’s men must bounce back at Brentford to keep their top-four hopes alive.
