November 04, (THEWILL) – Tottenham won their first game under Antonio Conte, a match against Vitesse in which five goals were scored in the first half and three players were sent off in the second.
After Lucas Moura’s effort was saved, Heung Ming-Son scored in the first minute, and the Brazilian extended the advantage after swapping passes with Harry Kane and racing free on goal.
Spurs were three up inside half an hour when Jacob Rasmussen denied Kane a tap-in after lunging for Ben Davies’ wayward shot, which he mistakenly took over his goal line.
Before the break, Rasmussen headed home a corner and Matus Bero sneaked a ball past Hugo Lloris.
Both Cristian Romero and Vitesse captain Danilho Doekhi received second yellow cards in the second half, and the Dutch side’s goalkeeper Markus Schubert joined them in the dressing room when he handled outside his area six minutes from time.
Tottenham rode their luck before having the advantage of having more players on the field, but they held on for a win that moved them into second position in Group G, three points behind Rennes.
Antonio Conte has a long way to go in improving Tottenham, but we may have already seen his influence with Harry Kane.
While the rest of the Tottenham team may require additional changes, making Spurs more agile and unpredictable up front might swiftly restore their status as a formidable final-third force.
