May 14, (THEWILL) – Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire on Sunday, at the popular Agbeni market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The cause of the fire could not yet be established as at the time of filing this report but sources in the area said the market was gutted by fire at about 4:30am, on Sunday.
The State General Manager of Fire Services, Yemi Akinyemi, confirmed the incident.
“The agency received the distress call at exactly 04:37hrs through Sunday Ogundele, Access Bank security, that Agbeni market is on fire.
“Our men are still battling with the job, we are grateful to the Central Bank of Nigeria that allows us to use their water supply. Everything is under control. They are still going to CBN to replenish,” he said.
South West Zonal Director of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Saheed Akiode, said personnel of the agency have been deployed to the scene and will provide more details in due time.
