BEVERLY HILLS, CA, July 2o, (THEWILL) – At last, the Southern Borno town of Damboa has been taken over by the Boko Haram.
The insurgents even went a bit further to consolidate their hold on the town by hoisting the flag of their sect in Damboa on Saturday.
Confirming the development at the weekend, a local vigilante member said the conquest of Damboa by Boko Haram has resulted into mass exodus from the town by residents who now seek refuge in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The fleeing residents, according to local sources, appeared to be afraid of. Being caught in a crossfire in case the military attempts to dislodge the insurgents.
It would be recalled tha the Boko Haram gunmen had earlier sacked the military from the town and had repelled an attempt to retake it before finally conquering it .
However there was no official confirmation of the casualty figure from the incident when filing this report. Local sources however put the number of those killed during the conquest at 21.
The fall of Damboa to the insurgents is considered a big blow to the counter-terrorism efforts of the Federal Government because of the strategic position of the town which had been under the siege of the gunmen for more than two weeks.
