December 07, (THEWILL) – The FIA has dropped its investigation into the alleged sharing of confidential Formula One information between Mercedes chief Toto Wolff and his wife, Susie Wolff, who runs the F1 Academy development series. The investigation began after media speculation and team principal concerns were raised about potential conflicts of interest.
The FIA reviewed F1’s code of conduct and determined appropriate protections exist against conflicts of interest. It confirmed no ongoing disciplinary or ethical inquiries are underway against any individuals. Both Mercedes and Susie Wolff previously denied any inappropriate behaviour occurred.
Susie Wolff said the accusations seemed “rooted in intimidatory and misogynistic behaviour” focused on her marriage rather than her abilities. Mercedes also claimed neither they nor F1 were informed before the FIA publicly announced its investigation.
The other nine F1 teams surprisingly issued identical statements supporting Susie Wolff and denying submitting any formal complaints to the FIA. Red Bull’s Christian Horner clarified they did not file any “official complaint” but did not elaborate.
The quick conclusion of the FIA’s investigation puts an end to the short-lived drama over the allegations of confidential F1 information sharing. Both Mercedes and Susie Wolff are now fully exonerated.
