FGC Ikot Ekpene Class of ‘84 Delivers 2nd Phase of Solar Energy to Alma Mater

October 06, (THEWILL) – The Class of ‘84, Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, celebrated their Reunion on Thursday, 5 October, at the prestigious Four Points By Sheraton Hotel in the Raffia City with a nostalgic visit to their alma mater which is a stone throw from the hotel. The three-day event started the previous day with a welcome cocktail party by the poolside of the hotel which featured cool music and culminated into the distribution of the goodies bags to the members.

The next morning featured a walkout and a breakfast before a historic visit to their Alma mater where they were received by the College ‘s Vice Principals. These include ;The Vice Principal, Special Duties 1, Alhaji Hassan Haruna; Vice Principal, Student Affairs (Girls), Mrs Elizabeth Ukpuho; Vice Principal, Student Affairs (Boys), Mr. Egaga Idiege; Vice Principal, Academics, Mr. A. Joseph and Vice Principal Special Duties 2, Mr Williams Udobia, among other officials of the institution.

In a brief opening remark, the class Captain of the set, Esv. Akan Umotong, after introducing his colleagues, set the tone for the meeting as one of the old boys noticed remarkable changes since their last visit and pledged to continue to fill the gap and augment the efforts of the Federal Government in the infrastructural development of the school. He also called on the authorities not to hesitate in voicing out their challenges.

Mr. Hassan Haruna, who stood in for the Principal, who is on official duty outside the state, acknowledged changes by the new administration in the institution led by Mr. J. N. Ezeogu, The Principal, who carries everyone along as an administrator, thanked the old boys for always coming to the rescue of their alma mater . He later took the visitors round the school as they nostalgically relieved their times in the institution. The visit to the first phase of the project which is still functional encouraged them as they moved to commission the second phase.

The second phase of the project and reason for their visit, a 5.0 KVA Solar Equipment, was unveiled by four of the class members, namely, Mr Bernard Okafor, Mrs Idongesit, Mr. Tunde and Mr. Godwin Udoh, who simultaneously cut the tape to officially commission the project.

Esv. Akan Umotong who is the Class Captain said that the project started immediately after commissioning the first phase last year and was complemented by rewiring the dining hall . He thanked the Central Bank of Nigeria for partnership, and some of their colleagues who went extra miles to see to the logical conclusion of the project, calling on the school to maintain the project for longevity.

In his response, Mr. Hassan Haruna thanked the Old Students of ‘84 Class for their gesture, assuring that the project will be protected and maintained and prayed for the all round successes in their endeavours.

The School Senior Prefect – Boys, Master Justin Etta, thanked the Class on behalf of the students and promised to make sure the edifice is protected .

The project Manager, Engr. Ndop O George, said that the solar power equipment will last for five years before servicing and attested to the quality of the equipment.
