August 09, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has launched a fresh intervention aimed at improving passport service delivery for Nigerians resident in the United Kingdom with the deployment of a special Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Passport Intervention Team to the country.
The initiative, approved by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is expected to bring passport enrolment and processing services closer to Nigerians across the UK, while easing the burden associated with obtaining or renewing travel documents through the Nigerian High Commission.
According to an official announcement issued by the Nigeria Immigration on Saturday, the intervention team will arrive in the United Kingdom on Monday, August 10, 2026, where it will collaborate with the Nigerian High Commission to process pending passport applications, fresh applications and renewals.
Special Passport Exercise Targets Nigerians Across UK
The Immigration Service said the intervention is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms to simplify passport administration, improve service delivery and enhance access to immigration services for Nigerians living abroad.
Unlike routine passport services concentrated at the Nigerian High Commission, the intervention team will travel to designated cities across the United Kingdom to conduct passport enrolment and processing, making it easier for eligible applicants to access the exercise without travelling long distances.
According to the NIS, the exercise is open to Nigerians with pending passport applications, first-time applicants and holders of passports with less than one year before expiration who intend to renew their travel documents.
Applicants are expected to present completed passport application forms together with proof of payment during biometric enrolment.
The Service explained that the intervention is designed to improve efficiency and reduce waiting time for passport applicants while ensuring that more Nigerians in the diaspora can access timely passport services.

NIS Urges Applicants To Await Official Timetable
The Immigration Service said the detailed schedule for the intervention (including the designated cities, dates, venues and enrolment times) will be released separately through the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom.
It advised intending applicants not to proceed to any location until the official timetable is published, warning that only information released through authorised government platforms should be relied upon.
To support the exercise, the Service provided dedicated communication channels for enquiries and complaints, including a specialised email address and a WhatsApp-only contact line for passport-related assistance.
The NIS also reassured Nigerians that the special intervention would not disrupt its existing passport services.
According to the agency, all digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, will remain fully operational throughout the exercise, while the passport home delivery service will continue to serve eligible applicants.
