October 26, (THEWILL) – The Pan – Yoruba Group, Oodua People’s Congress, OPC has called on the Federal Government to immediately stop what it called persecution of Independent People of Biafra, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu and Yoruba Nationalists leader, Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Speaking after the inauguration of the new executive council of OPC Mainstream in Lagos Tuesday, the newly elected president of OPC, Otunba Wasiu Afolabi said the right of Kanu and Igboho to demand for self determination is guaranteed by international conventions that Nigeria signed.

OPC said it recommends that the government should formulate inclusive policies that will convince agitators and separatists that Nigeria is worth sustaining and worth living for.

” The government must show that Nigeria is not for foreign Fulani herdsmen and their evil sponsors ; but that Nigeria land is for Nigerian people”, OPC said.

Meanwhile, members of the OPC have been urged to be upright and committed to the ideals of the founder of the group, Dr.Frederick Fasehun which was to promote peace, unity and justice in the country.

This advice was given by the wife of the founder of the group, Deaconess Iyabode Fasehun and the leader of the Afenifere Renewal Group, Hon.Wale Oshun while speaking at the occasion.

Oshun who was former Chief Whip of the House of Representatives said Fasehun left behind a worthy legacy, and that there is the need to remind ourselves of the objectives of the founder of the group.

He said he set out the group to protect the interest of the Yoruba people in Nigeria and in the diaspora.

“There is a greater need for these objectives now because our Yoruba is being threatened. Our common interests are threatened.”

He therefore urged the OPC members to forge unity with other self determination groups so that they can work for common interest.

Oshun urged members of the group to be committed in determining who emerged as leaders of the society and they should not restrict themselves to just being security consultants.

Deaconess Fasehun urged those elected into positions of authority to run affairs of the group for humanity and not for selfish interest.

She urged them to see their election as service to humanity.

She said her husband who founded the group stood for justice, peace and unity,so she advised the new executives to follow the foundation he laid, just as she appealed to members of the group to be United and speak with one voice.
