February 04, (THEWILL) – Manchester United secured a tense 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in their Premier League match at Old Trafford on Saturday.
United’s star midfielder, Casemiro, was sent off with a red card in the second half for grabbing an opponent by the throat, and will miss the next three matches. Despite the setback, United managed to hold on to their lead and claim the three points.
The match got off to an early start with a penalty being awarded to United just four minutes into the game. Bruno Fernandes stepped up and successfully converted the penalty, ending a run of three missed penalties. The hosts dominated the early stages of the game with several shots aimed at the Palace goal, but their efforts were either saved or went just wide.
The second half saw Palace put up more of a fight, with Odsonne Edouard and Jeffrey Schlupp both making attempts on goal. However, United’s defense held strong, and Marcus Rashford added to their lead with a well-placed tap-in from a cross by Luke Shaw. Despite a goal from Schlupp for Palace in the 76th minute, United managed to hold on to their lead and secure the victory.
In their crowded match schedule, United will welcome Leeds to Old Trafford on Wednesday while it will be until Saturday before Palace will play host to Brighton and Hove Albion.
