June 29, (THEWILL) – Akinkunmi Amoo, ex-Golden Eagles midfielder, has vehemently denied reports claiming that he has been jailed by a Danish court on charges of indecent assault, attempted rape, and rape in a sexual relationship other than intercourse. Although the Danish court did sentence an unnamed player to one-year imprisonment, deportation, and a ban from entering the country for six years, it did not disclose the identity of the player.

Although he confirmed that he was the player in question, Amoo categorically refuted the allegations, asserting that the case was a malicious act of blackmail that was being contested by his legal team. According to UDE Sports Management Agency, the player’s representative, he is still actively training with his Danish club, FC Copenhagen. In a statement released by UDE’s Chairman, Uche Dominic Egbukwu, they condemned the reports of Amoo’s conviction and clarified that the player was not sent to jail or placed under house arrest.

Egbukwu said: “Unfortunately, this case is blackmail and we will continue to fight for justice. Akin was not sent to jail. It’s sad that the Nigerian media that should support the player are pushing the wrong narratives. And I am going to sue them all for feeding the public with false narratives about our player.”

Amoo, who was part of the 2019 Golden Eaglets squad, has faced various challenges in his career, including a stint with Swedish side Hammarby before joining FC Copenhagen in 2022. Despite being sidelined due to injury for most of the previous season, he remains determined to continue his football journey. While the case unfolds in court, Amoo’s focus remains on his training and his commitment to his club.
