August 31, (THEWILL) – Barcelona forward, Ansu Fati, is close to finalising a loan move to Brighton and Hove Albion for the remainder of the 2023/2024 season.
The 20-year-old has struggled for regular starts at Camp Nou this term and is keen to rediscover his best form with more minutes under his belt. Fati burst onto the scene as a teenager at Barcelona but had his progress derailed by a serious knee injury in 2020 that kept him out for nearly two years. He returned to action last season but has been unable to cement a place in Xavi’s starting XI amid fierce competition for places.
Brighton have moved quickly to bring the Spanish starlet in on loan after selling Leandro Trossard to Arsenal late in the January transfer window. Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi is thought to have played a key role in convincing Fati to move to the south coast.
Fati will undergo a medical before putting pen to paper on a deal that will see Brighton cover the majority of his wages. A host of other Premier League clubs registered interest but De Zerbi’s project at Brighton appealled most to the young forward.
The move presents Fati with the chance to restart his career away from Barcelona. Brighton will be hoping the 20-year-old can add a new dimension to their attack as they seek to build on an impressive first half of the new EPL campaign.
