September 26, (THEWILL) – A supporter who racially abused Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr and Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze during matches at Mallorca in 2023 has been found guilty. The fan received a suspended 12-month prison sentence, Real Madrid announced on Thursday.
The offender, who remained unnamed in the club’s statement, had his sentence suspended after writing an apology letter to Vinicius and completing anti-discrimination training. Additionally, the fan was banned from attending stadiums for three years.
Real Madrid stated: “This is the third criminal conviction handed down in recent months for racist insults received by Real Madrid players.” The club emphasised its commitment to eliminating racist behaviour in football and sports.
Both incidents of abuse occurred at Son Moix stadium in Palma, Mallorca’s capital, within a two-week period. During the Mallorca vs Real Madrid match, spectators were recorded calling Brazilian player Vinicius a monkey. Vinicius has been outspoken against racism in Spanish football.
