November 01, (THEWILL) – Brownhill Investments Company Limited, the organizers of the annual Warri Again Concert, have filed a N2.3 billion lawsuit against Afrobeat artiste, David Adeleke, widely recognised as Davido, for an alleged breach of their agreement/contract.

Mr. Amaju Pinnick, former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, associated with Brownhill Investments Company Limited, initiated legal proceedings. The suit, officially labelled EHC/183/2023, has been formally filed before the Delta State High Court in Effurun, indicating a legal action against Davido regarding the alleged breach of agreement/contract.

The legal representative acting on behalf of the claimant, Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem, is urging the court to consider and award N2.3 billion as general damages. This claim is directed towards both Davido and his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited, in relation to the ongoing lawsuit. The specifics outlining the basis for this requested amount are likely detailed within the court filings.

The claimant is requesting the court to grant N150 million for legal and professional fees against Davido, along with an additional N30 million to cover the costs associated with filing the lawsuit.

The claimant also seeks a court order instructing the singer to issue a public apology on all of the 1st defendant’s social media accounts/handles and in two national daily newspapers for four consecutive days directed towards both the claimant and the event attendees.

In the statement of claim, the claimant asserted that in early 2023, Davido approached Pinnick during a meeting at the Abuja Airport, expressing interest in being involved in the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again Concert’ scheduled for October 6, 2023.

The claimant explained that while Pinnick initially hesitated to approve the request, he eventually agreed and both parties settled on N70 million as Davido’s performance fee.

The claimant reported that on April 6, 2023, the sum of US$94,500.00 (equivalent to N70 million) was duly paid and acknowledged by the defendants. Following this, Davido created a promotional video for the event but failed to attend on the scheduled day.

The claimant detailed substantial expenditures on print and social media advertisements and promotions. On September 29, 2023, a formal reminder letter, inclusive of the private jet’s flight itinerary for Davido and his team, was sent, incurring an additional $18,000 in expenses.

It stated, however, that efforts to contact Davido and his team on the event day, October 6, 2023, were fruitless, adding that the private jet remained on standby at Lagos Airport, incurring additional costs. Consequently, Pinnick’s company is seeking payment of $94,500 as full compensation for engaging Davido’s services.
