February 29, (THEWILL) – Wolverhampton Wanderers reached the FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time in over two decades, defeating Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 at Molineux Stadium on Wednesday night.
Mario Lemina capitalised on an error by Brighton keeper Jason Steele to score the deciding goal just two minutes into the match.
The victory sets up an enticing quarter-final clash against Championship side Coventry City. The winner of that match will advance to the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.
Qualification for Europe is still possible through league placings for both Wolves and Brighton this campaign. Still, an FA Cup triumph presents a more direct path to continental competition next season.
