Explosion Rocks Abule Ado, Festac In Lagos

SAN FRANCISCO, March 15, (THEWILL) – A severe explosion has rocked Abule Ado, Festac Town in Lagos.

The explosion which was reported in the early hours of Sunday has led to an inferno which has killed many people and left a lot of properties in ashes.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said the explosion wasn’t from a pipeline as earlier reported but was from a factory in the Abule Ado area.

The Federal Fire Service tweeted that their men are on their way to the site of the explosion.

“We are in touch with our men in Fire Stations around Badagry and Festac, we are trying to gather more information as regards the reported explosion in Lagos State, Nigeria. We are on it,” it tweeted.

Residents of various parts of Lagos said they heard a very loud bang this morning with no idea of where the sound was coming from.

Also, residents of Ijegun, Ikotun, Egbeda, Abule Ado, Okotoa, Isheri Olofin, FESTAC, Satellite Town said they were affected by the explosion.

The explosion according to an eyewitness account affected a Catholic private school in the Abule-Ado, Festac area, Bethlehem Girls College.

The entire school was razed down beyond recognition by the inferno while many boarding students and staff of the school are feared dead, with the actual number yet to be ascertained.

Eyewitness account said people trying to be safe from the explosion ran into swamps between Festac and Abule Ado.

Many have also reported their sense sense of hearing have gone numb after the sound of the explosion rocked their ears.

In other accounts, there were also pictures of how the explosion shattered roofs, windows and doors of buildings and churches in the area.
