August 27, (THEWILL) – Poland goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. The announcement came on Tuesday, shortly after he left Serie A club Juventus by mutual agreement.

Szczesny had spent seven seasons with Juventus and had one year remaining on his contract. Prior to his retirement, there were reports linking him with potential moves to Italian side Monza and Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr.

The goalkeeper’s career began at English Premier League club Arsenal before he moved to Italy. During his time with Juventus, Szczesny won three Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia trophies. He also had stints at Brentford and Roma. Szczesny represented Poland 84 times at the international level.

In a statement posted on Instagram, he reflected on his career, saying: “I left Warsaw, my hometown, in June of 2006 to join Arsenal with one dream – to make a living out of football. Little did I know it would be the start of a journey of a lifetime. Everything that I have and everything that I am, I owe to the beautiful game of football.”

The goalkeeper’s retirement marks the end of an 18-year professional career that saw him compete at the highest levels of club and international football. His achievements include domestic success in Italy and significant contributions to the Polish national team.
