Everton Halt Losing Streak With Late Equaliser At Newcastle

April 02, (THEWILL) – Everton ended their three-game losing run in the English Premier League after salvaging a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Tuesday night. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late penalty cancelled out Alexander Isak’s earlier strike as the points were shared between the two sides.
Newcastle looked set for a third consecutive home league win when Isak calmly slotted past Jordan Pickford in the 15th minute. The Swedish striker continued his prolific form, netting in his fourth straight EPL game and 19th this season, after latching onto a ball over the top and dribbling through the Everton defence.
Despite falling behind, the Toffees responded well and had chances of their own in the first half through Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Tarkowski. However, they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities after the break as Newcastle dominated proceedings, with Tarkowski fortunate not to put through his own net from a corner.
With the game heading towards a home win for Newcastle, Everton were awarded a penalty in the 88th minute after a VAR review for a foul on Ashley Young. Calvert-Lewin stepped up to powerfully dispatch the spot-kick for his first goal since September last year, earning his side a valuable point.
The draw lifts Everton four points clear of the relegation zone, while Newcastle remain eighth in the table.
