Everton Climb To 11th After 2-1 Victory At Southampton

October 1, (THEWILL) – Joe Aribo’s goal was not enough as Everton beat Southampton away from home on Saturday thanks to Dwight McNeil’s first goal for the club, giving them back-to-back wins and extending their unbeaten streak to six games.

Frank Lampard’s team came back from a goal deficit to win the three points when McNeil blasted from a tight angle into the roof of the net. Just minutes earlier, Aribo’s goal at the start of the second period was cancelled out by Conor Coady’s first Everton goal, tying the score at 1-1.

With the victory, Everton moved up to 11th place in the standings, just three points outside the top five and level with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, their Merseyside rivals.

Since Lampard has made some adjustments, Everton’s season has really taken off. Outsiders have enjoyed poking jabs at the manager and his players, but the supporters have seen where things are going. There will be many ups and downs, and the rebuild is far from over, but this team seems like one the supporters can once again support wholeheartedly.

The next fixture for Southampton is a trip to Manchester City next Saturday. The following day, Everton hosts Manchester United at Goodison Park.
