April 15, (THEWILL) – Everton Football Club has appealed against a two-point deduction imposed by the English Premier League for breaching the League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The club was charged in January for violations of the EPL’s PSR in their financial records for a period spanning from the 2019/2020 season to the 2022/2023 season. This recent deduction means Everton have now suffered two points deductions this season, dropping them to 16th place in the league standings.

Earlier this season, Everton were also deducted 10 points in November after admitting to a breach of the PSR for the assessment period ending with the 2021/2022 season. However, that penalty was later reduced to six points on appeal in February.

Everton’s latest appeal against the two-point deduction is the club’s attempt to mitigate the impact of the EPL’s financial regulations on their performance this season. The Merseyside club will be hoping to overturn the decision and regain the lost points as they look to climb up the table and secure their top-flight status.

With the financial pressures facing many clubs in the English top flight, Everton’s case highlights the importance of adherence to the league’s financial rules and the potential consequences for those who fail to comply.
