Europa League: Group E Round Up – PSV and Granada Qualify

PSV Eindhoven 4 – 0 Omonia Nicosia

SAN FRANCISCO, December 11, (THEWILL) – PSV turned on the style in their final first stage match to win Group E. Granada’s draw against PAOK in the other game of the group, means the Dutch side have even more reason to celebrate their resounding win tonight.

The victory was not as easy as the scoreline suggests, although the performance of striker Joel Piroe, who scored two eye-catching goals in additional time, put the result emphatically beyond doubt. Omonoia, meanwhile, finish rock bottom in the group with Nigerian central midfielder, Abdullahi Shehu, one of the best performers on the day.

PAOK Thessaloniki 0 – 0 Granada

After 90 minutes of stalemate Granada finished Group E in second place as PSV claimed a 4-0 win in Eindhoven against Omonia. Diego Martinez’s side needed a win to secure top spot in Group E but against the Greek opponents, the goals did not materialise even as they went all out for victory near the end.

But for the post, Fernandes Varela could have scored for the hosts. However, it ended goalless and the Nasrid team will be able to continue writing its history in the knockout rounds.

Group E Standings

PSV Eindhoven – 12
Granada – 11
PAOK Thessaloniki – 6
Omonia Nicosia – 4

PSV and Granada go through to the round of 32.
