Equities Market Closes Bullish as Investors Gain N7.5bn

June 20, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s bourse closed positive Monday with market capitalisation hitting N32.133 trillion and the All-Share Index (ASI) recording 59,014.85 basis points

This was after a couple of bearish days in the previous week which saw the market capitalisation close at N32.126 billion on Friday June 16 with the ASI at 59,000.96.

At the end of the first weekday of trading on Monday, a total of 892,954,602 shares in 9,274 deals, corresponding to a market value of N11,147,304,163.88, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, June 16), Monday’s data shows 43% improvement in volume, 71% improvement in turnover, but 2% decline in deals.

In the aggregate, 117 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 44 gainers and 23 losers. Tantalizers led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.22 per share, followed by Universal Insurance Company (+10%), Unity Bank (+9.8%) and Mutual Benefits Assurance (+9.76%). On the losing side, Ellah Lakes came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 3.24 per share, followed by John Holt (-9.57%), Academy Press (-9.55%) and Regency Alliance Insurance (-7.14%). Jaiz Bank recorded the highest volume of 140 million traded shares, followed by Sterling Bank (106m), Universal Insurance Company (95.1m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (83.8m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 13.89 (0.02%) points to close at 59,014.85, representing a 1-week gain of 5.51%, a 4-week gain of 13.25%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 15.15%.
