November 01, (THEWILL) – The English Premier League’s goalkeepers have been in inspired form throughout October, producing a series of outstanding saves up and down the League. Six of the finest stops made the shortlist for the Castrol Save of the Month award.
Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, a previous winner this season, showed his class once again to deny Brighton and Hove Albion’s Simon Adingra from close range. West Ham’s Alphonse Areola also earned himself two nominations – one for acrobatically tipping over a thunderbolt from Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz and another for a fine save to deny Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Sheffield United shot-stopper, Wes Foderingham, showed lightning reflexes to turn an effort from Rasmus Hojlund round the post against Manchester United. Tottenham’s new boy, Guglielmo Vicario, dived low to his left to keep out a Joao Palhinha header for Fulham.
Luton Town’s Thomas Kaminski was alert to deflect Ollie Watkins’ goalbound strike clear. All six saves demonstrated the outstanding ability and athleticism of some of the league’s best goalkeepers. Their consistently high standards have played a major role in producing many thrillers already this season.
The winner of the Castrol award will be announced in due course after fans vote for their favourite stop.
