April 27, (THEWILL) – Erling Haaland has made history by surpassing Mohamed Salah’s record of 32 goals to become the English Premier League’s highest-scoring player in a 38-game EPL season.
The Norwegian scored the landmark goal in Manchester City’s 4-1 victory over Arsenal on Wednesday. With seven games remaining, Haaland is on track to break the overall Premier League record of 34 goals shared by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole in 42-game campaigns early in the competition’s history.
Haaland has enjoyed a stunning season, scoring 33 EPL goals, as well as 12 in the UEFA Champions League and six in domestic cup competitions. He has scored in 19 of his 28 appearances, including four hat-tricks and five braces. If he maintains his current scoring rate, he could match the all-time English record of 63 goals in a season, set by Dixie Dean in the 1927/1928 season, as unlikely as it may seem.
The 21-year-old’s recent form has been particularly impressive, with 16 goals in his last nine games. Manchester City still have a possible 11 games remaining this season, including a Champions League semi-final over two legs and a possible final, and an FA Cup final.
With Haaland in such devastating form, the sky’s the limit for what he could achieve by the end of the campaign, which is only his first in England.
