EPL Preview: Chelsea To Test Carrick’s Mettle, Spurs Seek Redemption As City Clash With Hammers

November 28, (THEWILL) – The highlight of Sunday’s EPL fixtures for matchday 13 is the highly anticipated Chelsea versus Manchester United evening clash at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s famed defense can frustrate Cristiano Ronaldo, who experiences personal vexations when scoring is difficult and United will be wary of another high-score loss as against Liverpool.

In the other games, Antonio Conte will be asking for more from his charges away to Burnley after their Europa loss as he continues to realise just how much work he has in his hands, while Claudio Ranieri will desire that, against Leicester, his team will do more of what they did while thrashing Manchester United 4-1, which led to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sack.

As two impressive sides in Manchester City and West Ham lock horns in another Sunday 3 pm fixture in third versus fourth on the current standings of the EPL, THEWILL takes a lot at the ties and what to expect in a Sunday packed full of football thrills.

Burnley Versus Tottenham Hotspur – 3 pm

Tottenham Hotspur will attempt to rebound from Thursday’s 2-1 Europa Conference League setback to NS Mura when they face Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday. Spurs are presently seventh in the rankings, four points behind fourth-placed West Ham United, while Burnley are 18th, with only nine points from their 12 league games in 2021-22.

Burnley went into the November international break on the strength of an impressive point at table-topping Chelsea and a six-goal thriller with Palace the previous weekend, with the Clarets twice coming from behind to grab a share of the spoils in front of their home fans.

Last weekend, Antonio Conte led Spurs to a 2-1 league win over Leeds United, with the North London club coming from behind to win, and the result pushed them into seventh place in the table. Tottenham have had a difficult season, but a win at Turf Moor would put them in a good position for back-to-back home league games against Brentford and Norwich City.

Leicester Versus Watford – 3 pm
Leicester City will seek to get back on track in the Premier League when they host Watford at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Foxes have struggled to make an impression in the league this season, lying in 12th place, only two points ahead of 16th-placed Watford before of this weekend’s clash.

Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi’s FA Cup holders have not won a league game since beating Brentford on October 24, earning just a point in their last three games against Arsenal, Leeds United, and Chelsea.

Watford, meanwhile, will enter the game fresh off that 4-1 victory against Manchester United last weekend. Watford are only three points behind the top half of the table and will be anxious for a win ahead of back-to-back home games against title-winning contenders Chelsea and Manchester City.

Manchester City Versus West Ham – 3 pm
Manchester City will host fellow Premier League impressive team West Ham United to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, fresh off an exciting UEFA Champions League triumph over Paris Saint-Germain. David Moyes’ side also performed admirably in European action in midweek, easily defeating Rapid Vienna in the UEFA Europa League.

City have kept the pressure on leaders Chelsea and are now second in the standings, three points behind the European champions, while Liverpool are only one point behind the defending champions and ready to exploit any mistakes.

At the Etihad, West Ham will face an uphill battle to become only the second Premier League team to score against City on their home grounds this season. Raul Jimenez’s effort won the day for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Hammers’ most recent EPL clash, a 1-0 defeat at the Molineux. Can they prevent City from doing the same?

Chelsea Versus Manchester United – 5:30 pm
Manchester United head to Chelsea for a tense Premier League match on Sunday afternoon, buoyed by the news of Ralf Rangnick’s impending appointment. With 29 points from their first 12 games, the Blues remain in first place, while Michael Carrick’s side is seven places and 12 points behind the European champions.

Chelsea’s only goal conceded in their last 450 minutes of top-flight football came from Matej Vydra’s equaliser for Burnley in their last game before the international break, and United’s legendary strikers will have their work cut out for them to impress their soon-to-be interim coach.

Mauricio Pochettino’s future is still up in the air, but as United look for an experienced manager to lead them through the rest of the 2021-22 season, the ‘godfather’ of the gegenpress, Ralf Rangnick, appears to be on his way to Manchester.

Although both highly-anticipated games last season finished goalless, it will be foolhardy of the visitors to think history is on their side simply because they are unbeaten in their past seven Premier League encounters with Chelsea and that they maintained clean sheets in each of their last four.
