March 14, (THEWILL)- Nigerian Premier Football League giants Enyimba have found themselves in hot water with the league’s governing body. The club has been slapped with hefty fines and a partial stadium ban following a series of incidents during their Matchday 24 encounter against Doma United.

According to the NPFL Disciplinary Committee, Enyimba failed to provide adequate and effective security measures during the match, leading to poor crowd control. This breach of protocol allowed unauthorised individuals to gain access to restricted areas, ultimately resulting in a pitch invasion.

The chaotic scenes did not end there. The unsporting behaviour of Enyimba’s supporters and the club’s inability to control the crowd led to a disruption of the live broadcast. This incident has further compounded the club’s woes, as the NPFL takes a firm stance on maintaining the integrity of its competitions.

As a consequence of these violations, Enyimba has been hit with a substantial financial penalty. The club must pay a fine of N1 million for failing to provide adequate security and preventing unauthorised access to restricted areas. An additional N1 million fine has been imposed for the encroachment onto the field of play. However, the most significant sanction is a N5 million fine for the disruption of the live broadcast.

In addition to the financial penalties, Enyimba’s home ground, the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, will be closed to fans for the club’s next three home matches. The champions have been given a 48-hour window from the date of the notice to appeal the sanctions imposed by the Committee.
