August 17, (THEWILL) – England Football Association Chief Executive, Mark Bullingham, has said that he will not rule out the possibility that Lionesses boss, Sarina Wiegman, could one day lead the England men’s team.
Wiegman has guided England to its first-ever World Cup final, becoming the only manager to do so with two different nations after leading the Netherlands to the same stage in 2019. Her impressive results have led to speculation she could take over the England men’s national team someday.
When asked about the possibility, Bullingham said: “Why does it have to be a man? I think our answer is always it’s the best person for the job.” He praised Wiegman’s accomplishments but said England is focused on her continuing to lead the Lionesses.
“We think Sarina is doing a great job and hope she continues doing it for a long time,” Bullingham remarked. Wiegman’s contract runs through 2025 and he said the FA would reject any approach to lure her away.
With the World Cup trophy in sight under Wiegman’s guidance, the Lionesses seem poised to make history once again. Her success has sparked conversation about breaking gender barriers at the highest levels of football.
