August 29, (THEWILL) – The six Polish students and their lecturer arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) during the #EndBadGovernance Protest in Nigeria have regained freedom.
The students and their lecturer were among those arrested on August 5, in Kano State, over the alleged waving of Russian flags during the #EndBadGovernance protest.
A Polish foreign ministry spokesperson had faulted the claim that they waved flags and insisted they were merely in the vicinity of the protest.
Poland’s deputy foreign minister, Andrzej Szejna, had said the nationals are six students and their lecturer, who came to Nigeria from the University of Warsaw for an African studies exchange programme at the Bayero University in Kano.
In an update published via X on Wednesday, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the arrested nationals have been released.
“The Polish students have been released and are in Kano. Thank you to everyone involved in the release of the Polish citizens!” the Polish foreign ministry said in a post.
