January 12, (THEWILL) – Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery, has confirmed the club are unlikely to make any major signings during the January transfer window, despite sitting second in the English Premier League table. With Villa challenging for silverware on three fronts this season, Emery admitted he is already happy with the squad at his disposal.
Speaking ahead of his side’s weekend trip to Everton, Emery explained: “We are not being very focused in the transfer window because we are second in the table and we are recovering some players that have been out since the start of the season.” Villa have recently welcomed back defender Alex Moreno and midfielder Jacob Ramsey from injury.
With his side still fighting for the league title, as well as progressing in both the Europa Conference League and FA Cup, the Spanish manager believes he has enough strength in depth. “I am very happy with the players. We have the players here to do that,” he stated.
Villa have a number of first-team stars sidelined through injury, including Emi Buendia, Tyrone Mings and Lucas Digne. However, Emery singled out the return to training of Pau Torres and Youri Tielemans as key ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.
Ahead of the tough trip to Merseyside, Emery warned that Everton will prove difficult opponents on home soil despite their relegation battle this term. “They’re going to be very competitive at home and we’re going to prepare the match respecting them a lot,” he noted.
