Eiffel Tower Gets Olympic Makeover Ahead Of Paris 2024 Games

June 07, (THEWILL) – As the city of Paris gears up to host the 2024 Olympic Games, the world-famous Eiffel Tower has undergone a remarkable transformation. In a symbolic gesture, the iconic landmark has been adorned with the instantly recognisable Olympic rings, serving as a visual reminder of the upcoming global sporting spectacle.

The colossal ring structure, crafted from recycled French steel, has been strategically positioned between the tower’s first and second floors, offering a stunning view over the River Seine. Each ring measures an impressive nine metres in diameter and will be illuminated at night, creating a dazzling display that is sure to captivate visitors and locals alike until the conclusion of the Paralympic Games on August 28.

The installation process itself was a feat of engineering, requiring the use of two massive cranes to carefully manoeuvre and hold the rings in their elevated position. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, were present to witness the unveiling, underscoring the city’s pride and excitement in hosting the prestigious event.

One of the most highly anticipated moments of the Games will be the opening ceremony on July 26, where athletes will make a grand entrance by boat along the Seine River, with the Eiffel Tower serving as an iconic backdrop. Furthermore, the tower will play a central role throughout the events, hosting the volleyball competitions at its base.

The Olympic rings themselves were produced by ArcelorMittal, a leading steel company, using recycled and renewably produced materials, reflecting the organisers’ commitment to hosting the most sustainable Olympic Games to date.
