June 14, (THEWILL) – Egypt booked their place in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations competition after defeating Guinea 2-1 in a Group D match at Morocco’s Marrakesh Stadium.

The match saw an early setback for Egypt when Omar Marmoush was forced off the field due to a back problem. Guinea capitalised on a brilliantly-executed move, as Issiaga Sylla set up Serhou Guirassy for the opening goal.
Egypt had a chance to equalise soon after, but Mohamed Salah missed the target with an open net. Nevertheless, Trezeguet found the back of the net just before halftime, thanks to a Salah’s assist. In the second half, Guinea started strongly and pressured Egypt’s goalkeeper, but the North African side regained control as the game progressed.
Egypt came close to taking the lead when Trezeguet’s shot was saved by Guinea’s goalkeeper. However, their persistence paid off when Trezeguet provided an excellent assist for Mostafa Mohamed to score the winning goal.
Both teams will conclude their qualification campaign in September, with Guinea facing Malawi away and Egypt hosting Ethiopia.
