February 02, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), revealed on Tuesday that the technical crew of the Super Eagles, led by caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen, has provided an in-depth technical report on the team’s performance in the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.
Dr Mohammed Sanusi, the NFF General Secretary confirmed this when he said: “We have received the technical report on the AFCON 2021 and we are presently studying it, in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.Â
“Once the study and appraisal are done with, we will make known our position.”
THEWILL recalls that Nigeria won all three of her group stage matches in Garoua, Cameroon, defeating Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea Bissau to become the only side in the competition to score the maximum nine points from three group games.Â
In the Round of 16, however, the team was defeated by Tunisia by an odd goal.
There is also the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 two-legged play-off round to look forward to. The Super Eagles were drawn to face Ghana’s Black Stars, with both legs taking place between March 21 and 29, and the aggregate winners earning a spot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
It is hoped that the senior men’s national football team will improve the lapses that led to the shocking AFCON upset and console football-loving Nigerians with a proper performance in the March fixtures to confirm their World Cup ticket.
All these should constitute part of the position of the NFF after combing through the technical report submitted by the Eguavoen-led crew.
