December 23, (THEWILL) – The draw for the quarter-final fixtures of the EFL Cup has been announced and the only non-Premier League team still in the competition is League One’s Charlton, who were paired against Manchester United when the competition resumes next month.
After losing by a razor-thin margin to Manchester City in the fourth round on Thursday, Liverpool, the defending champions, were expectedly completely left out of the draw. Pep Guardiola’s City will now travel to the south coast to play Southampton after advancing instead of the Reds.
In a matchup of the east and west midlands, Nottingham Forest will host Wolves, whilst Newcastle and Leicester have also been drawn to face each other.
Matches for the quarterfinal round will be held in the week beginning January 9, 2023. Thereafter, the two semi-finals’ first legs will start the week of January 23, 2023, and second legs the following week on January 30, 2023.
By this schedule, the first major trophy of the 2022/2023 season will be awarded at the Carabao Cup final, which will take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
