July 30, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Malam Jalal Arabi, has honoured the invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged mismanagement of 2024 Hajj funds.
This follows petitions against the Chairman and his management team over alleged mismanagement of funds by the commission.
A source within the commission said Arabi was in the anti-graft agency’s office on Tuesday morning to provide detailed explanations on how NAHCON shared the funds allocated to it for the pilgrims.
“As of now, the NAHCON Chairman has been invited, he is already being interrogated by our crack detectives to provide explanations on some issues that border on allegation of fund mismanagement in the commission,” the source said, adding that the investigation dated back to 2021 when the issue of fraud in the commission became messier.
The source further disclosed that three directors of the commission, including the Director of Procurement, Director of Finance and Director of Programme, had earlier been invited.
The spokesperson of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, has yet to confirm the invitation at the time of report.
