EFCC Fails To Produce Emefiele In Court

November 06, (THEWILL) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday failed to produce former Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele in Court in disobedience to an Abuja High Court ruling last week directing the anti- graft agency to set him free of bring him to court.

Efforts by THE WILL to get official reaction failed as either the Director of Communications Mr Wilson Uwugaren or the Head of Media, Dele Oyewale failed to answer calls nor reply to text messages.

THE WILL recalls that a High Court, siting in Maitama, Abuja, on Friday, November 3, ordered the EFCC to unconditionally release Godwin Emefiele, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), or produce him in court on Monday, November 6, by 1pm.

The order followed a motion filed by Emefiele against the Federal Government, the Attorney-General of the Federation, Chairman of the EFCC and the Anti-graft agency.

Ruling on the ex parte motion numbered FCT/HC/CV/040/2023, M/122/2023, filed on Tuesday, October 31, Justice O.A. Adeniyi on Thursday, ordered the EFCC to “unconditionally release” Emefiele or in the alternative produce him in court on Monday, November 6, for hearing of the substantive motion on notice for the purpose of being admitted to bail by the court.

“Accordingly, it is hereby further ordered that the motion on notice shall be heard on Monday, 6/11/2023, by 1pm prompt. The instant order, together with the motion on notice shall be served on the Respondents today”, the court further ordered.
