EFCC Arrests Ex-Principal Secretary To Jonathan, Former Kaduna Governor

SAN FRANCISCO, May 18, (THEWILL) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday arrested former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Principal Private Secretary, Hassan Tukur, same day it arrested the immediate past governor of Kaduna state, Ramalan Yero.

Tukur, who is believed to be one of the most powerful persons in the Jonathan administration, was picked up by operatives of the anti-graft agency in his Abuja residence. No reason has so far been given for his arrest.

On his part, Yero was arrested for his alleged involvement in the sharing of N700million allocated to Kaduna State out of the $115m deposited in Fidelity Bank by former Petroleum Resources minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, during the 2015 general elections.

The spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the interrogation of the former governor but declined to provide details of the investigation.

Since the defeat of the People’s Democratic Party at the 2015 general elections, the commission has been investigating how public funds were stolen and diverted for political purposes during the immediate past administration of Jonathan.

Already, the National Security Adviser, NSA, in that administration, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) and many other top politicians are already being prosecuted by the EFCC.
