March 19, (THEWILL) – In a highly anticipated rematch, Leon Edwards, has retained his welterweight title in a trilogy fight against Kamaru Usman, at UFC 286, held in London, UK.
Despite Usman having moments of brilliance, Edwards managed to shut down the high-level and ex-championship wrestler with his more strategic performance, resulting in a majority decision win after five rounds.
The fight began with Edwards taking the initiative with a low kick, while Usman was more reserved, carefully observing his opponent’s movements. The fight remained tense throughout, with both fighters evading each other’s attacks. Usman managed to take Edwards down, but he quickly got back on his feet.

Although Usman continued to pressure the champion, Edwards was strategic in his attacks and scored points with jabs and kicks. In the end, Edwards was declared the winner in a majority decision by the judges.
The victory against Usman has given Edwards a significant milestone in his career, with two wins in three fights against the Nigerian Nightmare. The Englishman also extends his unbeaten streak to 12 fights with this triumph. Although Usman had his moments in the fight, including a point deduction for Edwards, he failed to capitalise on them and ultimately lost the fight.
