September 21, (THEWILL) – The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Edo State, Anugbum Onuoha, has assured voters that election results will be transmitted electronically.
Speaking on Arise Television on Saturday morning, Onuoha said the governorship election process has been perfected with necessary backups, giving assurances that the results will be uploaded to the IReV if there are no network issues.
“Election results will be transmitted electronically. BVAS will accredit voters to know the total number of voters at each polling unit. We will conduct an election we can truly call our own. Results will be uploaded to IReV if there are no network issues,” the REC said.
The IReV is the result viewing portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
THEWILL earlier reported the heightened tension and heavy security presence in Edo State as eligible voters file out to 4,519 polling units across the 18 local government areas in the state to elect a new governor.
While 18 political parties are contesting the election that will produce the successor of Godwin Obaseki at the Dennis Osadebey House, the race has been widely regarded as a three-horse contest, with attention focused primarily on the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Asuerinme Ighodalo; the All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday Okpebholo and Barr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).
