September 22, (THEWILL) – Amid apprehension over the delay in the collation of the result of Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki stormed the head office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Benin City, early Sunday.

Accompanied by his security aides, the governor walked into the office of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Anugbum Onuoha.

While the governor was in the REC’s office, some supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), protested at the INEC office, saying it was improper for Obaseki to meet with INEC officials during the election.

The protesters tried to gain entrance into the premises but were prevented by armed security operatives.

Amid the brewing tension, DIG Frank Mba walked into the INEC office and asked the governor to leave.

However, security operatives escorted the Governor out of INEC premises at about 4:45 AM.

However, moments after the governor left, INEC announced that the collation of election results would commence at 10 AM.

As Edo people await the final results of the governorship election, INEC is expected to announce the winner of the tight poll between the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), this Sunday.

THEWILL earlier reported that both candidates maintain the lead in their strongholds, with Ighodalo having an edge in Edo South, while Okpebholo pulls weight in Edo North.
