BEVERLY HILLS, September 28, (THEWILL) – The governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, respectively are locked in a tight race in Wednesday’s governorship vote in the state, according to samples of verified results taken from different parts of the state. THEWILL therefore rates the election too close to call as at Wednesday night.
The two candidates won in their respective polling units and wards in the southern senatorial district.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo State, Mr. Sam Olumekun, told journalists that collation of results from across the 18 Local governments in the state would start on Thursday.
The election was generally peaceful across the state though there were reports of pockets of violence, ballot box snatching and inducement of voters with cash by agents of political parties.
The PDP in multiple statements Wednesday night accused the APC and electoral commission of planning to rig the votes in favour of Obaseki, querying why the results were not announced on Wednesday night.
The APC state chairman, Mr. Anslem Ojezua said his party is confident of victory having observed how it fared across the state especially in purported strongholds of the PDP.
