Edo State Governor Honours Late Victor Uwaifo, Names Creative Hub After Him

November 16, (THEWILL) – Late veteran singer, Victor Uwaifo’s legacy will always be remembered as governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State last weekend, launched the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin, Edo State.

Uwaifo who died at the age of 80 was a Nigerian musician, writer, sculptor, musical instrument inventor, university lecturer, music legend, and the first Honorable Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in Nigeria.

The creative hub which was named after the late singer for his outstanding contributions and performance in the music industry is equipped with facilities that support youths who have talents in music, film and other creative contents.

The inauguration took place during the Edo Mega Youth Concert which was part of this year’s Alaghodaro Summit with the theme, “The Guitar Boy Lives On” and it also featured musical artistes like Johnny Drille and Waje.

Governor Obaseki, said that his government was committed to creating numerous opportunities in the entertainment and creative Industry to empower more Edo youths and grow the state’s economy.

He also added that: “Edo is about entertainment; Edo is about education; Edo is about helping those interested in entertainment to achieve their aims.

“This is a sound stage to help artists produce music and films; there is an editing suite that will help artists finalize all their productions.

“In the world today, you can’t ignore young people. 60 percent or more of Edo’s population are young people. The purpose of this government is to open up the space for you.

“We have launched the 30-year Edo development plan and the key components of the plan are education, technology, and entertainment. I want to let you know that your government will not abandon you again.

“We will not fail you again; you will not have any need to be frustrated to want to leave home to travel outside. We want to make a home for you so you will not have any reasons to leave home again.”
